“Painting is simple. Daubs of coloured paint on a surface. But
something happens, and it happens in the mind of the viewer.
I am seldom aware of it whilst painting, indeed if I were, I think
maybe my attention would be distracted.
I have no idea whilst painting whether what I am doing is “good”
or not. Once back home I put it in the kitchen, and THEN I take
time to look at what I have got.
The painting takes on a life of it’s own. Something mysterious
happens, something which is hard to explain.
This is the magic of art. This I feel is what holds the attention of
the viewer, and this is what interests me too, but it is not
something I understand exactly, it is a mystery.
And somehow, it is part of the mystery of nature, and we are part
of that mystery too.”
